We’re beyond thrilled to share some exciting news: thanks to the generous support of friends, family, and our incredible community, we’ve earned a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico through our fundraising efforts for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the American Cancer Society!

This trip isn’t just a getaway — it’s a celebration of the strength and resilience of breast cancer survivors, the power of advocacy, and the kindness of those who give. Every dollar raised helps fund life-saving research, critical support services, and resources for patients and families — and we’re proud to be a small part of that mission.

Kathryn’s journey as a breast cancer survivor has been filled with challenges, growth, and grace. Being able to celebrate this milestone together — in such a beautiful place — feels like a full-circle moment. We’re humbled, grateful, and more inspired than ever to continue this fight.

We can’t wait to explore the beaches, soak in the sunsets, and embrace the vibrant culture of Puerto Vallarta — and of course, we’ll be sharing every step of the adventure with you right here on Noftzger’s Travel Adventures.

Hi, we’re Mike and Kathryn—a husband and wife team with a story rooted in love, resilience, and faith. After 18.5 years of military service, Mike faced a stage 3 kidney cancer diagnosis in 2024. Kathryn, a breast cancer survivor since 2017, became his steady rock through the journey, just as he had been hers. Together, we’ve weathered life’s hardest storms and found strength in our shared experiences. Our story isn’t just about surviving—it’s about thriving, leaning on each other, and holding fast to hope. Through every challenge, we’ve grown closer, and we’re here to share what we’ve learned about love, healing, and the power of never giving up.

Washington DC Trip - Day Two - Mayflower Hotel

We will be spending the next five nights at the Mayflower Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue.  We had previously stayed here back in 2019 when we interned Kathryn’s dad in Arlington National Cemetery.  It’s one of the oldest hotels in the city and has been used for many famous people including US Presidents. The Mayflower opened its doors on February 18, 1925, with 440 guestrooms.   The hotel earned the nickname “The Grande Dame of Washington” and “Hotel of Presidents.”   Former President Harry S. Truman famously called it “Washington’s second-best address” (after the White House).   The Mayflower has hosted inaugural balls, state dinners, high-profile meetings, and been an enduring location for both social and political events.   In 1927, Charles Lindbergh was awarded the Hubbard Medal at a breakfast held at the hotel.   In 1933, President Franklin D. Richmond, VA - Travel Day One

Ocr 31, 2025 - Richmond, VA We started off our trip by stopping for the night in the Richmond, VA.  We didn’t want to push our luck since this was my first big drive since my surgeries in 2024.  The drive was uneventful , other than the typical road construction on the way.  We planned and met up with a couple of Kathryn’s college friends for dinner at Firebirds in NC Short Pump.  We had dinner with Robin, her husband Lawrence and her other friend, Jackie and her daughter Peyton.  It was a great evening of conversations and great food.
